Au In the beginning was the Word

A NEW WORLD
Be alert

1. The catechesis “A new world” is an introduction to the block of the New Creation, which (in the map) is in the diagonal that goes from the creation (V) to the new creation (VI). We recall it. The Catechumenal Project has four books and six blocks:
1. He is with you (I)
2. Only one God and one Lord
3. From the old man (III) to the new man (IV)
4. From the creation (V) to the new creation (VI)
2. In the revision of the Catechumenal Project we have gone some steps farther:
* Gospel’s signals appear in the block “He is with you” (I). We went through this step in the course 2009 – 2010
* We recovered and updated block Old man (III), step given in 2010 – 2011.
* The Great Biblical experiences stay inside the block of Creation (V). We went through it last course, 2011 – 2012
3. Present course program revises and updates the New Creation block (VI). In the original project, this block included the “newest” under a renovation key (death, judgment, purification, hell, glory). Under the present revision, the “newest” are concentrated in a unique catechesis: “The last day”. By these means they are simplified, coming back to the Gospel.
* The catechesis over the Sacraments that were in the New Man block (IV), second series of circles in the map, go to the New Creation block (VI). In this way every block has one unique series of circles (homologation)
* Sacraments are signals of a new world. Confirmation and Penitence appear as Baptism’s complementary catechesis Confirmation should not be a sacrament that could divide the Christians. This has an ecumenical dimension. The 2012 - 2013 program results as follows:
1.  A new world. Be alert (Mt 25, 13)
2.  Renewal wind, a new temple (Jn 2, 13 – 22)
3.  The Baptism, a brand new birth (Jn 3, 5 – 8)
4.  The Lord’s dinner, a new alliance (1 Co 11, 23 – 27)
5.  A new priesthood, to do his will (Hb 10, 5 – 7)
6.  The wine of the wedding, Gospel’s signal (Jn 2, 1 – 12)
7.  The healing mission. The Lord goes around healing (Acts 10, 38)
8.  The last day (Jn 6, 40). That who believes will not be judged (Jn 3, 18)
9.  New creation. New heaven and new earth (Rev 21, 1 – 5)
4.  God´s word enlightens not only the past, but the future too. God will be “the last” because he has been “the first” (Is 40 – 55). From the present faith’s experience we live the past as God´s gift and the future with hope. It is neither fruit of a speculation nor of a philosophy. World and mankind find their consistency and hope in their meeting with Christ.
5. The future does not arrive by itself; we must prepare it with our hands. It is said by the proverb: God helps to those who help themselves. Hope in God and in his action does not prevent the believer’s action in order to get a more just and human world. The believer cannot use hope as an excuse to show lack of interest towards the compromise with the rest of human beings in this world common tasks. The believer must verify his hope taking seriously and actively part in what humanity hopes, Love to God goes through love to the brothers (1 Jn 4, 20). Hope goes through those projects in which the believer takes part jointly with all human beings, accomplishing in this way the divine mandate to perfect the earth (Gn 2, 15; 1, 28)
6. Therefore, neither compromise without faith, nor faith without compromise. So it is taught by the Vatican Council II: “They are mistaken those who, knowing that we have here no abiding city but seek one which is to come, think that they may therefore shirk their earthly responsibilities. For they are forgetting that by the faith itself they are more obliged than ever to measure up to these duties, each according to his proper vocation. Nor, on the contrary, are they any less wide of the mark who think that religion consists in acts of worship alone and in the discharge of certain moral obligations, and who imagine they can plunge themselves into earthly affairs in such a way as to imply that these are altogether divorced from the religious life. This split between the faith which many profess and their daily lives deserves to be counted among the most serious errors of our age (GS 43).
7. God´s kingdom is not an spectacular event with date and place. At one point   some Pharisees   asked him when the kingdom of God was coming; he answered, “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed, nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for indeed, the kingdom of God is inside you.” (Lk 17, 20 – 21). The Kingdom of God does not come in power  (Mk 9, 1), it is the kingdom of the son of man the one that comes over the clouds (Mt 16, 27 -28) and it judges history (19, 28), after much suffering and being condemned by this generation (Lk 17, 25)
8. The disciples, simple people, allow to be impressed by the temple buildings. Jesus takes them out of this superficial and deceitful plane, placing them before the catastrophe that is already building up round them: “there will not stone over stone left”. It is necessary to analyze present time signals: “Learn this parable from the fig tree: when the branch becomes already tender and the leaves sprout, you know that the summer is near. In the same way, when you see all this, you must be aware that the kingdom of God is near” (Lk 21, 31).
9.  Amidst horrors that through out all times announce to the world its own end, resound the good news announcing that, whatever may happen, God´s victory will impose. Powerful forces that destroy the world and the men, war, hunger, deaths, earthquakes (Mt 24, 7 – 14) will be defeated by a superior force: God´s word, the good news from Jesus, the Christ (Rev 6, 1 – 2)
10. A new world is coming up. The whole creation moans to the present and suffers labor pains (Rm 8, 22). We should keep vigilant, alert. The truly new is already marching up: “Look, I am creating something new, it is already blooming, don’t you notice it?” (Is 43, 19), look that I am making a new world” (Rev 21, 7)
11. The old Christianity is falling down, but a new way of being Church is born: community amidst the society. It is said that the Council “is a milestone in Church’s history that signals the end of an epoch – that of the church conceived as a perfect society, strongly institutionalized and centered on hierarchy -, and the beginning of another one in which its communion mystery and people of God condition will be discovered; a Church still waiting the original form of institutionalization matching her” (J. Martin Velasco). Nevertheless, as it was said some years ago, “the future of the church is already present in it” (E. Yanes). Don’t you notice it?
